Initially every interested person could vote for one of the twelve design versions, from which the five most popular were directed to members of the council for further evaluation.

The new logo of Jelgava local municipality has three colors: The golden color symbolizes family and work virtues, the blue stands for the river Lielupe with its tributaries and the green symbolizes agriculture as one of the main occupations in Zemgale, which has the most fertile soil in Latvia. The logo harmonizes with the priorities proposed by the Development programme – human, environment, economics.

In September there was a Visual Identity System (VIS) manual developed, currently the binding regulations are being elaborated.
